Donald Trump left Ankara aboard the former Air Force One after US officials established the existence of a credible threat from Iranian proxy forces targeting the president and his aircraft.
The threat was identified while Donald Trump was attending the NATO summit in Ankara. The US president had traveled to Turkey aboard the Boeing 747-8 provided by Qatar, an aircraft that Trump himself acknowledged did not have the same advanced defense systems as the former Air Force One.
Faced with this risk, deemed credible, US authorities decided to change the president's plane before his departure. It was therefore on the former presidential aircraft, better equipped defensively, that Trump returned to the United States.
