Invited to the Europe 1-CNews program "La Grande Interview" this Thursday morning, the mayor of Béziers, Robert Ménard, strongly criticized the peace agreement signed between the United States and Iran under the auspices of Donald Trump. Speaking to Laurence Ferrari, the mayor asserted that the American president had not achieved the objectives he himself had set at the beginning of the conflict.

“I don’t think this is a good agreement,” declared Robert Ménard, denouncing in particular the continuation of Iran’s ballistic missile program and the concessions granted to Tehran. The agreement notably includes the gradual lifting of US sanctions, massive investments in the Iranian economy, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, with the implementation of transit fees.

The mayor of Béziers also lamented the lack of political change in Iran. "Trump incited the Iranian people to revolt. And all for this? He's an absolute liar," he declared, arguing that the American president could not present this agreement as a victory.

During this interview, Robert Ménard also called for transcending traditional divisions in view of the 2027 presidential election. "We must go above political parties," he stated, advocating for rapprochement on major social and sovereignty issues.
