Russia intensifies Starlink jamming to counter Ukrainian drones

Russia is bolstering its countermeasures against Ukrainian drones by deploying jamming systems targeting Elon Musk's Starlink satellite network, which has become a key element of Kyiv's operations. According to several Ukrainian drone commanders and pilots interviewed by Reuters, Moscow is also increasing its camouflage techniques to limit the effectiveness of long-range strikes.

For several months, Ukraine has been relying on medium-range strike drones capable of reaching targets located several tens of kilometers behind Russian lines. Often piloted using the Starlink connection, these devices have been used to target fuel depots, air defense systems, command centers, and logistical routes, contributing in particular to fuel shortages in occupied Crimea.

Faced with this threat, Russian forces have reportedly deployed powerful jammers designed to disrupt satellite communications used by Ukrainian drones. According to military sources interviewed, Moscow is also seeking to conceal its convoys and military equipment by camouflaging them or using civilian vehicles to complicate their identification from the air.

Reuters visited the 422nd Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Regiment, deployed in the Zaporizhzhia region, where several commanders described a rapid adaptation of Russian tactics. According to them, drone warfare has become a true technological race, with each side constantly developing new methods to neutralize the adversary's capabilities.

This development illustrates the growing importance of electronic warfare in the conflict. While drones play a central role on the battlefield, the ability to protect or disrupt satellite communications is now considered a major strategic issue for both sides.
