Instability has remained a hallmark of FC Nantes since the Waldemar Kita era. The Canaries are turning a new page. Antoine Kombouaré has just been dismissed, as he was in 2023, reports L'Equipe . The Kanak is no longer the coach of the 13th-placed team in Ligue 1 for the 2024-2025 season.

FC Nantes managed to secure their place in the top flight on the final day, beating bottom team Montpellier 3-0. But it wasn't enough.

Antoine Kombouaré, winner of the 2022 Coupe de France, the club's only trophy in 20 years.

15 coaching changes since 2010…

Antoine Kombouaré, 61, successfully took over this moribund team in March 2024, while the Nantes management had already sacked Pierre Aristouy and then Jocelyn Gourvennec that season.

The coach knew the club well, having played there and also having already managed FC Nantes from February 2021 to May 2023, with a victory in the Coupe de France in 2022, a first trophy in two decades.

His return in 2024 had started well before obtaining inconsistent results, not helped by the choices made during the various transfer windows.

Waldemar Kita would like to start afresh with a coach who brings new ideas and a more distinctive playing style. Former Lyon manager Pierre Sage has already been mentioned. The next step will be to provide him with a squad that aligns with his vision.
