Two police officers were injured on Sunday in Le Mans during an intervention in an apartment where a man whose behavior was deemed disturbing allegedly attacked law enforcement officers with a knife.
According to initial information released by the prosecutor's office, police officers responded to a report of an individual throwing objects from his apartment window. Upon their arrival, the man allegedly opened the door and injured one of the officers with a knife.
The police then used their weapons and shot the suspect, who subsequently barricaded himself inside the apartment before being apprehended approximately an hour later. His condition is now critical.
The Le Mans public prosecutor's office has opened two separate investigations, one into the assault on the police officers and the other into the use of weapons by law enforcement. The Angers criminal investigation department has been assigned to the case.
