Vladimir Putin is expected in China "very soon" amid a tense geopolitical context

The Russian President Vladimir Putin The Kremlin announced Thursday that it will make a visit to China "very soon," adding that preparations for the trip are now complete. This visit comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions and a growing rapprochement between Moscow and Beijing.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not give a specific date for the trip, but confirmed that all necessary preparations had been finalized. This is the latest meeting between Vladimir Putin and the Chinese president. Xi Jinping should once again illustrate the strength of relations between the two powers.

The two leaders have met more than forty times in recent years. Their last meeting took place last September in Beijing, within the framework of the strengthened strategic partnership between Russia and China.

Moscow and Beijing officially signed a "no-limits" partnership in February 2022, a few weeks before the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine. Since then, the two countries have intensified their political, economic, and diplomatic cooperation in the face of Western pressure.

The announcement of this visit also comes as the American president Donald Trump is currently in China for a series of meetings with Xi Jinping. This simultaneous presence reinforces the attention being paid to the diplomatic balance between the major powers.

Vladimir Putin's upcoming visit could lead to new strategic agreements between Moscow and Beijing, in a context where Russia seeks to consolidate its international partnerships while China attempts to strengthen its global diplomatic influence.
