Ukraine and Latvia conclude a strategic agreement on military drones

Ukraine and Latvia have signed a cooperation agreement in the field of drones, the Ukrainian president announced on Tuesday. Volodymyr Zelensky during a meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs on the sidelines of a summit bringing together Ukraine and the Nordic and Baltic countries in Tallinn, Estonia.

According to Volodymyr Zelensky, this agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in defense and industrial co-production. The Ukrainian leader emphasized that the experience his country has gained on the battlefield can now contribute to improving the capabilities of its European partners.

The details of the agreement have not been made public. However, the Latvian Prime Minister indicated that this cooperation would allow his country to benefit from Ukrainian technological expertise and explore opportunities for joint production in the drone sector.

“We must protect our airspace, and no one knows better than Ukraine how to do that,” Andris Kulbergs said at a press conference. He also asserted that drones played a crucial role in the conflict in Ukraine and were responsible for a large portion of the losses suffered by Russian forces.

For several months, Kyiv has been seeking to transform its expertise in drone warfare into a diplomatic and industrial asset. The technologies developed by Ukraine are generating increasing interest among numerous countries, both in Europe and the Middle East, where several cooperation discussions have been initiated.

Rustem Umerov stated that Latvia was becoming the sixth country to join the Ukrainian initiative for international cooperation in the field of drones. This platform aims to develop technological and industrial partnerships around this equipment, which has become essential in modern conflicts.

Last month, Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that nearly twenty countries had expressed interest in concluding drone-related agreements with Ukraine. This dynamic illustrates Kyiv's desire to strengthen its alliances while leveraging the expertise acquired since the beginning of the war.
