The request for a visit underscores the close political ties that exist between certain officials close to Donald Trump and the former Brazilian president.
Jair Bolsonaro, who led Brazil from 2019 to 2022, is currently being held in connection with legal proceedings related to several investigations opened after he left office.
The Supreme Court must now examine the request from his lawyers and decide whether this visit can take place in compliance with the applicable detention rules.
