Another deadly shooting in a troubled area of ​​Nantes

A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed Thursday evening in the Port-Boyer district of Nantes during an armed attack that also left two others with minor injuries. The shooting occurred around 19:30 p.m. near a known drug dealing spot. According to initial findings of the investigation, the assailants were traveling on a two-wheeled vehicle before fleeing after the gunfire.

The victim died at the scene after being shot in the chest. Two other teenagers, aged 13 and 14 according to several media outlets, were hospitalized. One of them reportedly sustained particularly serious injuries. The prosecutor's office is focusing on the theory of a drug-related settling of scores in an area already marked by several incidents of armed violence since the beginning of the year.

A neighborhood already hit by recent violence

In late April, another shooting had already claimed the life of a young man in the same Nantes neighborhood. Several police operations had been carried out there in recent months to try to curb the influence of drug trafficking networks. According to local sources, this would be the 26th shooting recorded in Nantes since January.

The mayor of Nantes, Johanna Rolland, denounced the event as an "absolute tragedy" and called for a stronger response from the state. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez is expected to visit the site this Friday morning, while a major security operation has been deployed in the area by law enforcement.
