The live-action adaptation of the Mattel franchise, Masters of the Universe, has been available on Prime Video in France since Wednesday. This streaming release comes without any theatrical release in France, while the film had already been released in cinemas in the United States, Belgium, and Switzerland on June 5th.
A return of He-Man worn by Nicholas Galitzine
Directed by Travis Knight, known for Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee, the film tells the story of Prince Adam, separated from his home planet Eternia since childhood after crash-landing on Earth. Twenty years later, the young man, played by Nicholas Galitzine, returns to Eternia to embrace his destiny, become the warrior He-Man, and rally the planet's last defenders against Skeletor.
The cast also includes Camila Mendes as Teela, captain of the royal guard; Idris Elba as Duncan, Teela's adoptive father and a man-at-arms; and Alison Brie and Jared Leto as Evil-Lyn and Skeletor, respectively. Kristen Wiig provides the voice for the robot Roboto.
A film available in France less than two months after its American release
Produced by Amazon MGM Studios with an estimated budget of between $175 and $200 million, the film is distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Releasing International, although no theatrical release date has been announced for France. Its availability on Prime Video allows French audiences to discover the film relatively soon after its US release on June 5th.
Running for 2 hours and 23 minutes, this new feature film marks He-Man's return to the big screen nearly 40 years after the 1987 film starring Dolph Lundgren. Filming took place in London between January and June 2025, and the world premiere was held on May 18, 2026, at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.
