Three gendarmes were injured on Friday when a suspicious package exploded at the Argentine gendarmerie school, located in the center of Buenos Aires, according to a police source quoted by AFP.
The explosion occurred in the early afternoon while the package, of undetermined origin, was being handled. According to a police report reviewed by the agency, the package had been received several months earlier.
The three injured people were hospitalized for burns. Their lives are not in danger, authorities said.
The gendarmerie school building, an eleven-story structure, was evacuated as a precaution, as were several neighboring buildings. A security perimeter was established in the area by law enforcement.
Bomb disposal teams accompanied by specialized dogs were deployed to the scene, alongside forensic police officers, to inspect the area and determine the exact origin of the explosion.
