The Lake Chad province is facing a new wave of mass displacements. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports over 75,000 people forced to flee their homes due to attacks attributed to Boko Haram.
The humanitarian situation is deteriorating in the Lake Chad province. According to the IOM, whose teams have been deployed on the ground, more than 75,000 people have been displaced internally following a resurgence of violence attributed to the jihadist group Boko Haram.
This figure illustrates the scale of a crisis affecting a region already weakened by years of conflict and instability. Civilian populations, caught between fighters’ offensives and persistent insecurity, are abandoning their villages to seek refuge elsewhere in the province.
The IOM has documented these displacements through field operations conducted with affected communities. The Lake Chad region, at the junction of Chad, Niger, Nigeria, and Cameroon, remains one of Central Africa’s most active tension hotspots for over a decade.
