The ADF jihadist group has struck in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, killing around twenty people according to civil society. This violence comes as the Ebola epidemic continues to spread in the region.
Around twenty people were killed in a new attack by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in the territories of Mambasa and Beni, in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. This death toll was reported by local civil society.
This militia, affiliated with the Islamic State group, is intensifying its offensives in an area already weakened by years of armed conflict. The attacks are multiplying in a particularly worrying context: the Ebola epidemic is simultaneously spreading in the region, further complicating the humanitarian situation and relief operations.
The ADF is regularly implicated in massacres of civilians in North Kivu and Ituri. Despite military operations conducted by the Congolese army, sometimes in coordination with the United Nations Mission, the group maintains a significant capacity to inflict harm in these isolated territories.
