A strong earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan on Friday, AFP journalists reported in Kabul and Nangarhar province. The tremor was felt in several areas of the country, causing concern among residents.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake reached a magnitude of 5,8. Its epicenter was located approximately 130 kilometers northeast of the Afghan capital.
No immediate information was available regarding potential damage or casualties. Local authorities have not yet released any figures.
Afghanistan is regularly struck by earthquakes due to its location at the junction of several tectonic plates. The tremors frequently cause significant damage, particularly in rural areas where homes are often vulnerable.
