Requiem for a dream, the cult film of the 2000s, is back in theaters, on Blu-Ray 4K – Ultra HD on April 9 and at the Cinémathèque française for a complete Darren Aronofsky retrospective, from April 2 to 9.

Twenty-five years after its release, Requiem for a dream continues to fascinate and upset film lovers around the world. The film is studied in some faculties, in philosophy and sociology classes, in the addiction departments of some hospitals and in high schools in order to alert students to the dangers of drugs.

As a reminder, the film tells the story of Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn), who lives alone in Coney Island. A widowed and whimsical Jewish mother, she lives in the obsessive hope of one day being invited onto the set of her favorite television show. It is with this in mind that she follows a draconian diet, in order to fit into the dress she will wear when the big night comes.

His son Harry (Jared Lero) is addicted to drugs. With his girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly) and her boyfriend Tyrone (Marlon Wayans), they drown their daily lives in childish visions of earthly paradise. In search of a better life, the quartet is drawn into a vicious spiral that pushes them, ever deeper, into anguish and self-destruction...
