Aged 26, Norris becomes the first British driver to win the title since Lewis Hamilton in 2020, and ends Verstappen's run of four consecutive titles.
Before the decisive race, Norris entered the three-way battle with a 12-point lead over Verstappen and 16 over Piastri. On the grid, Verstappen started from pole position, Norris lined up alongside him on the front row, and Piastri started third.
To keep his title hopes alive, Verstappen needed Norris to finish beyond fourth place, while Piastri needed his teammate not to finish in the top five in the event of a victory.
