2026: A turning point in F1 with enhanced hybrid engines and the removal of DRS. A new beginning for Ferrari?

While the 2025 season was disastrous for Ferrari, everything will be reshuffled next year. The 2026 Formula 1 season marks the beginning of a new era, with significant technical, sporting, and environmental changes. The 1.6L turbocharged V6 hybrid engines are undergoing a major overhaul: the MGU-H is being phased out, while the electric power of the MGU-K is increasing from 120 kW to 350 kW, allowing electric power to account for up to half of the total power output. This redesign aims to make the cars more efficient, more sustainable, and more fuel-efficient.

In terms of aerodynamics and chassis, the cars will be lighter and more compact, with front and rear wing systems that adjust automatically depending on the context. Overruns will no longer be covered by the DRS, which has now been abolished.but through a new electric “boost” mechanism, which can be activated under certain conditions to promote more strategic overtaking.

These changes should make racing more tactical, focused on energy management and strategy, while also reshuffling the deck between teams based on their ability to exploit these innovations. The emphasis on sustainability, weight reduction, and improved car agility also marks a transition towards a greener Formula 1, closer to current automotive technologies.
