US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran is in "many difficulties", citing runaway hyperinflation, soaring food prices and serious damage to its military infrastructure.

Speaking from Manila on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit, Marco Rubio painted a grim picture of the situation in Iran. The US Secretary of State cited hyperinflation that is severely impacting the population, rising food costs, and significant damage to the country's military capabilities.

These statements come amid Washington's continued maximum pressure on Tehran. Rubio did not specify the exact nature of the military damage he was referring to, nor the circumstances that allegedly caused it.

The delivery of this speech at a regional diplomatic forum dedicated to Southeast Asia illustrates the American desire to bring the Iranian issue to all multilateral fronts, including those geographically distant from the Middle East.
