Trenitalia France announced on Friday, August 7, an order for 19 high-speed trains from the Japanese manufacturer Hitachi. The investment represents approximately two billion euros and is intended to support the Italian operator's expansion in the French rail market.
The new trains will be used on several lines departing from Paris. Trenitalia already operates the Paris-Lyon, Paris-Marseille and Paris-Milan routes, on which the company seeks to increase its frequencies and compete more closely with SNCF.
The Paris-London link confirmed for 2029
Part of this new fleet will also operate between Paris and London. Trenitalia France has confirmed the opening of this international route in 2029, marking its entry onto a route currently dominated by Eurostar.
This significant order reflects the European ambitions of the Italian state-owned railway group FS, parent company of Trenitalia France. By choosing Hitachi, the company is relying on a manufacturer that already participates in the production of its Frecciarossa high-speed trains.
