EasyJet's board of directors accepted the takeover bid from US fund Apollo Global Management on Wednesday. The deal is worth £5,7 billion, or €6,7 billion. Each share will be valued at £7,15. Apollo stated that it has been following the British airline for several years and considers it one of the most attractive companies in the global airline industry.
A delisting from the stock exchange is being considered.
The acquisition is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2027. It remains subject to shareholder approval and regulatory clearances. If these conditions are met, Apollo plans to delist EasyJet from the London Stock Exchange. This delisting would allow the fund to invest freely in the company's transformation and profitability improvement.
The acquisition marks a turning point for EasyJet, which would come under American control after years of being listed on the UK stock exchange. Apollo has until early 2027 to obtain the necessary approvals to finalize the deal.
