Gabriel Attal filed a complaint Friday evening in Paris after being informed of several disinformation campaigns attributed to Russian networks. The leader of the Renaissance party and presidential candidate denounces acts of foreign interference that could undermine the integrity of the 2027 election.
The former prime minister received an initial warning on Wednesday before being alerted on Friday to a new operation carried out the previous day. These warnings were transmitted to him by the General Secretariat for Defense and National Security and by Viginum, the service responsible for combating foreign cyber interference.
Fake articles and reports disseminated online
According to his lawyers, several accounts on the X network impersonated French and international media outlets to disseminate fake front pages and doctored videos. These posts attributed false statements and behaviors to Gabriel Attal and his associates, intended to discredit him politically. The former head of government was notably portrayed as potentially suffering from Parkinson's disease.
Other figures likely to run in the presidential election have recently been targeted by similar operations. Édouard Philippe was subjected to false information about his health, while Raphaël Glucksmann was targeted through his partner, Léa Salamé. A judicial investigation has already been opened regarding this latter operation.
