Everything happened during the night of March 17-18. The mysterious graffiti artist Banksy has just confirmed that he is the author of a surprising fresco discovered in north London.
Hidden behind his pseudonym, Banksy has become a figure in urban art. This time, it was the residents of the Finsbury Park area in the Islington district who had the pleasure of waking up with one of his works before their eyes.
The street artist projected green paint on the facade of a building and brought a bare tree back to life. Taking a step back, we understand that the tree is dressed for spring, with its new foliage. At the bottom left, in stencil, his trademark, a young woman holding a sprayer is represented.
It was finally on Banksy's Instagram page with more than 12 million followers that the confirmation came, via a “before and after” photo of the fresco.
A nod to Saint Patrick's Day celebrated on Sunday in Anglo-Saxon countries? Ecological message? An Islington town councillor, on the BBC, found it “incredible” to have a work by Banksy “right in the middle of social housing and in one of the poorest areas of the borough”.
This gives “hope for our natural world everywhere,” former Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn, also MP for Islington, said on X.
