Petit Biscuit is forced to slow down. The French DJ and producer, whose real name is Mehdi Benjelloun, has announced the cancellation of his concerts scheduled in Australia and Indonesia, explaining that he is no longer able to cope with the current pace of long international tours. The artist openly discusses a decline in his mental health and panic attacks that have become increasingly difficult to manage.
"The panic attacks haven't stopped."
In his message to his fans, Petit Biscuit explains that his difficulties are not recent. "My mental health has been deteriorating for several years ," writes the musician, who also describes persistent panic attacks and physical tension that has become permanent.
The artist acknowledges how fortunate he is to be able to make a living from his music, but explains that this success is no longer enough to compensate for what he is going through. The positive moments of his career have become harder to appreciate, while the difficult periods are, according to him, increasingly difficult to endure.
“The panic attacks haven’t stopped. They’ve even gotten worse ,” he confides. The producer now believes that a tour involving extensive international travel is simply no longer feasible in his current condition.
An Australian tour that was supposed to mark his return after seven years
This decision comes as Petit Biscuit was set to make his big comeback in Australia, where he hadn't toured for seven years. Several concerts were scheduled in Brisbane, Byron Bay, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Sydney, Wollongong and Perth between September 18 and 27, before a planned date in Bali, Indonesia, on October 1.
Several Australian ticketing websites are now showing some dates as cancelled.
The situation is reminiscent of the difficulties faced by other artists forced to abruptly interrupt their tours to protect their health. Last January, DJ Snake immediately suspended his world tour to undergo surgery.
Stromae had interrupted his tour in 2023 for health reasons before gradually resuming some musical activities. More recently, the singer also made his comeback with new musical projects.
No announcement of a career retirement
Petit Biscuit has not announced the end of his career or a definitive retirement from performing. His message specifically concerns his trips to Australia and Indonesia and his current ability to undertake long-distance tours. As of September 17, several subsequent dates are still scheduled, including a concert in the United States in October and a show in Bergerac on October 31.
This break comes at an important time for the musician. Just a few days before his announcement, Petit Biscuit was still talking about his next album, Insomnia , announced for October 21st and produced under his own label, Écurie.
Having risen to fame at a very young age with "Sunset Lover ," which became a worldwide hit, Petit Biscuit has pursued an international career in electronic music for over a decade. His announcement on September 16th therefore marks the cancellation of part of his tour, without any indication of a definitive retirement from music or performing.
