This Monday, July 7, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot will travel to Rennes to conclude his "Diplo Nation" regional tour. The goal: to strengthen dialogue between national diplomacy and local stakeholders, elected officials, businesses, and civil society. This is an unprecedented approach at a time when France is trying to redefine its place in an unstable world.
Local diplomacy for a world in crisis
The minister will spend the day in Brittany. He will first meet with local companies specializing in the agri-food and defense sectors, before meeting with readers of the regional press. At the prefecture, he will then chair a meeting of ambassadors and discuss the role of elected officials in territorial diplomacy. His visit will conclude with a public debate on the theme: "Diplomacy is everyone's business." This is a way for the government to respond to rising concerns about international tensions.
