A Guinean court sentenced activist Bella Bah to six months in prison, five of which were suspended, for insulting and defaming a prominent imam in Conakry. A former member of the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution, he is regularly targeted for his criticism of the government.
The Guinean justice system has delivered its verdict against Bella Bah: six months in prison, five of which are suspended, for insulting and defaming a prominent imam of Conakry. The activist, known for his outspoken criticism of the Guinean authorities, will serve one month of actual detention.
Bella Bah has long been an activist within the FNDC, the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution, a movement that opposed the 2021 military coup and the excesses of the regime. Her public appearances, particularly on social media, have earned her considerable notoriety as well as repeated legal troubles.
This conviction comes amid increasing pressure on critical voices in Guinea, where several activists and journalists have been prosecuted in recent years.
