A new complaint for "attempted rape" has been filed against Patrick Bruel. The information was revealed by Franceinfo. Lawyer Myriam Guedj-Benayoun, who represents several women accusing the singer, announced on Wednesday, August 19, that the complaint was filed during the summer. It concerns events that occurred some time ago and adds to the numerous legal proceedings now targeting the 67-year-old artist.
A young woman in the entertainment industry denounces an attempted rape
According to Myriam Guedj-Benayoun, the new complainant was "extremely young, just of legal age" at the time of the alleged events. She was working in the entertainment industry at the time. The lawyer described the circumstances reported by her client: "The same pattern of events is evident: she's in the entertainment world, she's approached, invited to a party, and at that party, she's alone with Patrick Bruel, and that's when she claims she was the victim of attempted rape." The precise date of the alleged events has not been disclosed. They are believed to be old enough to be, in principle, subject to the statute of limitations. However, the lawyer believes the court will have to examine the possibility of a connection with other incidents already the subject of legal proceedings.
Other testimonies are to be submitted to the judges in September.
The case could still grow. Myriam Guedj-Benayoun announced that she will submit several new testimonies from women to the investigating judges in September. These women do not necessarily wish to file a formal complaint, but they do want to make the facts of the abuse they claim to have suffered known to the justice system. According to the lawyer, their testimonies mainly concern attempted rape. These new elements must now be examined by the magistrates in charge of the case. Submitting these testimonies does not automatically mean that they will lead to new charges.
Patrick Bruel already indicted in four cases
Patrick Bruel was formally charged on June 10, 2026, after 48 hours in police custody, in four separate cases. The proceedings concern an alleged rape in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 2008, an alleged attempted rape in Brussels in 2010, as well as accusations of sexual assault and harassment in Perpignan in 2019 and sexual harassment in Ajaccio the same year. In four other cases, Patrick Bruel was placed under the status of assisted witness, an intermediate status that does not constitute a formal charge. The singer denies the allegations against him and intends to defend his innocence in court.
At least 31 complaints have been filed against the singer.
Accusations have multiplied since the beginning of the year. At least 31 complaints against Patrick Bruel for alleged rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, or sexual harassment have now been recorded. Some concern incidents dating back to the 1990s, others to much more recent events. Several cases therefore raise the question of the statute of limitations. The new complaint announced this Wednesday adds to two complaints filed on July 16 and 23. One woman reported an alleged rape dating back to 1994, while another accused Patrick Bruel of a sexual assault that allegedly occurred in 2005.
Patrick Bruel's judicial supervision at the heart of a legal battle
Alongside the investigations into the accusations themselves, the courts must decide on the judicial supervision imposed on Patrick Bruel. Following his indictment, the singer was notably prohibited from leaving French territory. On July 21, the investigating judge accepted a request from his lawyers to lift this restriction. The Nanterre public prosecutor's office appealed this decision, which it considers "unjustified" and "excessive." The investigating chamber of the Versailles Court of Appeal examined this appeal in mid-August. The ruling is expected on September 16. Pending this decision, Patrick Bruel remains authorized to travel abroad.
A new legal step is expected in September.
September is therefore shaping up to be a crucial month in this case. In addition to the decision regarding the singer's judicial supervision, the judges must receive the new testimonies announced by Myriam Guedj-Benayoun. The court will have to determine how to proceed with this new complaint of attempted rape and the additional testimonies, particularly in light of the age of the alleged events and the statute of limitations.
