Emmanuel Macron participated on Monday, August 17, in the ceremony commemorating the Liberation of Bormes-les-Mimosas, in the Var region. For his last participation in this event as President of the Republic and resident of the Fort de Brégançon, the Head of State delivered a moving message to the residents and elected officials.
A regular at this annual event, Emmanuel Macron spoke of the bonds forged during his nine years of frequenting the town. He confided that he had "grown accustomed to seeing familiar faces" among the elected officials, flag bearers, and residents, while also remembering those who had passed away.
"This August 17th is a little special."
The President of the Republic also reflected on the events that marked his years at Brégançon: social unrest, the fires of 2017 and 2021, the pandemic, the return of war to Europe, but also the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Provence and the election of Bormes-les-Mimosas as "France's Favorite Village". "It was a time," he summarized.
“This August 17th is a bit special. I’m going to miss you too,” Emmanuel Macron finally told the residents of Bormes and the local elected officials. For this last political event of his presidential term, the head of state also urged them not to give in to “defeatism,” while promising: “We will never be far away.”
