The British government has announced that holders of a disabled travel card will be able to travel free on buses at any time from next April in England.
Until now, bus passes for disabled people were only valid Monday to Friday, between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., unless local authorities themselves funded an extension of these hours. This is what the Greater Manchester region did earlier this year, at the initiative of Andy Burnham, then mayor of the metropolitan area.
The measure, now extended to the whole of England, removes this time restriction. Holders of a disability pass will therefore be able to travel on the bus for free at any time of day or night, seven days a week, starting next April.
This announcement is part of a series of government decisions aimed at easing the financial pressure on struggling households and businesses.
