The back-to-school allowance is being paid out this Tuesday, August 18th, to nearly three million families in mainland France, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, and Martinique. Intended for low-income households, this aid is meant to help finance school supplies, clothing, educational materials, and other expenses related to the start of the school year. In Réunion and Mayotte, the payment was already made on August 4th due to the school calendar.
The back-to-school allowance (ARS) applies to children aged 6 to 18 who are enrolled in school, university, apprenticeships, or attending a specialized institution. For the 2026 school year, it can be granted to children born between September 16, 2008, and December 31, 2020, as well as to younger children entering first grade (CP). The amount depends on the age of each recipient.
Aid ranging from 426,87 to 466,02 euros
Families receive €426,87 for a child aged 6 to 10, €450,41 for a young person aged 11 to 14, and €466,02 for a teenager aged 15 to 18. These amounts were increased on April 1, 2026. When household income slightly exceeds the established limit, a reduced differential allowance may be granted.
To be eligible for the benefit, 2024 income must not exceed €28,956 for a family with one dependent child, €35,638 for two children, €42,320 for three children, and €49,002 for four children. Payment is automatic for recipients with a child aged 6 to 15. Parents of a young person aged 16 to 18 must confirm their child's enrollment in school or an apprenticeship, while a school certificate is required when a child enters first grade (CP) before the age of 6.
