RappelConso launched a nationwide recall on Monday for a burger sold in all Carrefour stores. Listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria responsible for listeriosis, was detected in the product. Consumers who purchased this item are advised not to consume it and to return it to the point of sale for a refund.

A bacterium that is dangerous for vulnerable populations

Listeriosis poses a particular danger to certain population groups. Pregnant women are among the most vulnerable to this foodborne infection. The incubation period can last up to eight weeks, sometimes making diagnosis difficult and delayed.

Health authorities are advising anyone who has eaten this burger to monitor themselves for symptoms in the coming weeks. Listeria monocytogenes contamination remains a major concern in the food industry due to the potential severity of complications it can cause in vulnerable individuals.
