The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Health Agency published a worrying report for Savoie on Tuesday. Between June 1st and August 10th, 2026, forty-one cases of Legionnaires' disease were reported to the department's health authorities. Two people died from this respiratory infection. The victims, all over 80 years old, were at increased risk of developing the disease.
40 hospitalizations for respiratory problems
Forty patients have been hospitalized for respiratory problems linked to the bacteria. The scale of the outbreak is worrying health services, which are trying to contain the source of contamination. Legionnaires' disease is contracted by inhaling droplets of contaminated water, often from poorly maintained air conditioning systems or hot water pipes.
Health authorities are continuing their investigations to identify the precise source of these infections. The department is experiencing an unusually high concentration of cases for this time of year. The Regional Health Agency (ARS) is urging vigilance, but has not yet released information on the most affected geographical areas or the preventive measures being implemented.
