French MEP Manon Aubry, from the La France Insoumise party, announced that she was hospitalized after being bitten by a viper in France. The envenomation caused serious complications requiring her transfer to intensive care. The MEP herself recounted her ordeal on Instagram, posting a photo taken from her hospital bed. Despite her hospitalization, Aubry appears smiling and holding a drawing of Monsieur Malchance (Mr. Bad Luck), a reference to the accident she recently experienced.

"A viper thought it wise to bite me."

Manon Aubry explains that she was bitten while in France. "A viper thought it would be a good idea to bite me and send me to the hospital with some complications related to the envenomation ," she writes. The elected official also emphasizes the relatively rare nature of this type of accident: "There are fewer than 300 in France per year, and of course it had to happen to me!" After the bite, Manon Aubry initially went to the emergency room. Her condition then required more intensive care and transfer to the ICU due to the complications caused by the venom.

A viper bite can cause a significant local reaction, with pain and swelling, but also, in some cases, systemic complications requiring close hospital monitoring. Manon Aubry did not specify the nature of the complications she suffered. However, she confirmed that she was treated first in the emergency room and then in intensive care. The published photo shows the MEP in a hospital bed, with various medical devices and a monitoring armband around her arm.

Manon Aubry thanks the healthcare workers

In her message, the MEP made a point of thanking the teams who cared for her during her hospitalization. "Thank you to the healthcare workers in the emergency department and then in the intensive care unit who took such good care of me ," she wrote. She also used her hospitalization as an opportunity to reaffirm her support for public hospitals: "Long live public hospitals: we promise, we will continue to fight to give you the resources you need!" Manon Aubry did not specify how long she remained in intensive care or the exact date of her discharge. The post, however, shows her smiling after the significant scare caused by the viper bite.
