A new drug seizure took place on Saturday, August 15th at Tahiti-Faa'a International Airport. A Spanish national, who arrived in French Polynesia on a French Bee flight, was stopped by authorities upon disembarking.
A search of his luggage reportedly uncovered nearly 250 grams of ice, a particularly potent form of methamphetamine. The drugs were concealed in a false bottom of a suitcase, according to TNTV. Authorities have not yet released the exact origin of the flight or the presumed final destination of the drugs.
Another seizure after a record haul
This interception comes a few weeks after a major seizure in air freight in French Polynesia. Agents had then discovered 1,92 kilograms of methamphetamine and 1,04 kilograms of cocaine in a package shipped from the United States.
The investigation will now have to determine whether the traveler was transporting the drugs on her own behalf or acting as a courier for an organized network. The circumstances of her recruitment, the origin of the crystal meth, and any potential local recipients will also need to be established. No information has yet been released regarding any legal action taken following her arrest.
