Francis Lalanne has announced his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election. The singer will hold his first campaign rally on Friday, August 21st at the Galabru Theater in Paris. This event is intended to mark the official launch of his campaign, eight months before the first round of voting.
The 68-year-old artist claims to want to represent a break with the current political system. His candidacy is supported by the citizens' movement France Libre, which advocates, among other things, national sovereignty, a profound reform of the justice system, and the development of a more direct democracy. The candidate's full platform will be gradually unveiled throughout the campaign.
A candidacy supported by Dieudonné
Francis Lalanne has the support of Dieudonné, a controversial comedian convicted several times, notably for inciting racial hatred. This alliance could fuel criticism surrounding a candidacy already positioned outside traditional political parties. The singer had previously been involved in several protest movements, particularly against health restrictions.
The organizers promise a "surprise announcement" at the Paris rally, without specifying its nature. Francis Lalanne will now have to structure his team, present his proposals, and convince elected officials likely to support his candidacy. Like all presidential hopefuls, he will have to gather the necessary endorsements to officially participate in the election.
