High-waisted jeans, a timeless classic that continues to appeal to all generations

Long associated with the silhouettes of the 1970s and 1990s, high-waisted jeans have made a lasting comeback in wardrobes. Their waistband typically sits up to the navel, or even above, unlike low-rise styles that sit on the hips. This cut is now available in almost every style, from straight-leg to flared, including mom jeans, slim-fit jeans, and wide-leg trousers.

Its success lies largely in its ability to structure the silhouette. High-waisted jeans accentuate the waist, visually lengthen the legs, and pair easily with a tucked-in blouse, a crop top, or a loose-fitting jacket. They also meet the demand for comfort, especially when the fabric contains a small amount of stretch and the waistband doesn't excessively compress the abdomen.

A trend that has become a wardrobe classic

Social media, celebrities, and the recurring resurgence of vintage styles have all contributed to keeping this cut at the forefront. Brands now offer more inclusive sizes and different waistband heights to accommodate a wider range of body types. Raw or black denim is often chosen for a smart look, while faded, wide-leg, or ripped jeans maintain a more casual vibe.

High-waisted jeans, however, aren't automatically suitable for everyone or every situation. A crotch that's too long, a waistband that's too stiff, or a poorly fitting cut can create creases and become uncomfortable when sitting. The choice, therefore, depends less on trends than on body shape, fabric, and the quality of the cut. Despite the periodic return of low-rise jeans, high-waisted jeans now seem to have transcended a mere fashion trend to establish themselves as a permanent fixture in the contemporary wardrobe.
