Seven months of hospitalization following multiple organ failure
Phil Collins recounts that his condition deteriorated sharply after a relapse into alcoholism. His kidneys and several organs gradually ceased to function, leading to a hospitalization that lasted nearly seven months. : “People came to say goodbye to me. But I don’t remember it. I had no idea what was happening. Everyone thought I didn’t have much time left. Decisions had to be made about whether to keep me alive. I was extremely lucky to make it through.”
An addiction that developed over the years
The musician had previously spoken about his struggles with alcohol, particularly after personal and family hardships. He acknowledged that his drinking had become excessive, even to the point of drinking wine first thing in the morning, before his health deteriorated significantly. Since that episode, Phil Collins maintains that he hasn't consumed a single drop of alcohol.
His health remains fragile
Having already faced numerous health problems in recent years, Phil Collins suffers from neurological aftereffects, difficulty moving, and several other conditions that forced him to end his performing career. He now lives with the constant assistance of a home nurse and continues his rehabilitation.
