Nearly a thousand people participated in a silent march on Wednesday, August 19, in Bollène, Vaucluse, in memory of Katerina. This mother of two, in her forties, was found dead in her home on August 6. The participants marched peacefully to support her family and to denounce domestic violence.
The victim's ex-partner, a former running mate of the National Rally candidate in the March 2026 municipal elections in Bollène, is suspected of killing her. He was formally charged with "murder of a spouse" and placed in pretrial detention two days after the incident. Presumed innocent at this stage of the proceedings, he was already facing charges for violence committed against Katerina during a separation.
A complaint and several protective measures
Katerina, a mother of two, filed a complaint against her former partner in June. The suspect was then placed under judicial supervision and was due to appear before the Carpentras court in November. The victim also obtained a protection order and received an emergency alert phone at the end of June.
Several relatives present at the march stated they were aware of the violence the woman in her forties had endured. Participants called for more resources to protect women at risk and to enable the justice system to intervene more quickly. Katerina's mother, who came from the Czech Republic, is now seeking to repatriate her daughter's body, and a fundraising campaign has been launched to help the family finance this.
