As we reported on Wednesday , the partially burned body discovered in a vineyard in Saint-Gilles could be that of Sonia Bellina. DNA testing has now confirmed that it is indeed the 29-year-old influencer, who had over 250,000 followers on TikTok. Her family had had no news of her since August 10.
The body was discovered on August 12 by a farm worker on a plot of land about twenty kilometers from Nîmes. Initial findings did not allow for immediate identification of the victim due to the condition of the body. The Nîmes public prosecutor's office opened a murder investigation, which was entrusted to the gendarmerie's research section.
Two men suspected of involvement in the events
Two men in their thirties were arrested on Wednesday and taken into custody. Evidence gathered by investigators suggests their direct or indirect involvement in the events. One of them, already known to police for violence and carrying a weapon, is believed to have been Sonia Bellina's last contact on the night of her disappearance, while a vehicle seen in the area has also drawn the attention of the police. At this stage, both suspects are presumed innocent.
The exact circumstances of the death and the motive remain to be determined. Alongside the criminal investigation, the family is denouncing the rumors, insulting comments, and dissemination of information about the victim's private life on social media. Her lawyer has announced that reports will be filed and legal action taken against those responsible for publications that damage Sonia Bellina's memory or are likely to hinder the investigation.
