Motorists taking to the roads this Saturday, August 2nd, will need to be patient. Bison Futé (the French traffic information service) has classified the day as "black" (extremely heavy traffic) for departures across much of France. This classification, the highest on the scale, indicates particularly poor traffic conditions with expected slowdowns on major roads.

Four days of heavy traffic

The peak travel period isn't limited to Saturday. From Friday, July 31st to Monday, August 3rd inclusive, roads will remain congested throughout France. These four days coincide with the peak of summer departures, when millions of French people leave home to reach their holiday destinations. Routes leading to the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts will logically be the busiest.

To minimize disruption, users can consult the detailed forecasts from Bison Futé and adjust their departure times. Early morning or late evening slots generally allow travelers to avoid peak hours. Caution is still advised on all roads during this busy holiday weekend.
