Rapper Doums, whose real name is Mamadou Coulibaly, appeared before the Paris Criminal Court on Monday. He is being tried for alleged domestic violence against his former partner, actress Adèle Exarchopoulos, with whom he has a son. The alleged incidents covered by the case span from 2017 to 2025.
Repeated violence at the heart of the case
The artist is being prosecuted for "habitual domestic violence" resulting in a total work incapacity exceeding eight days, as a repeat offender. This charge refers to repeated acts committed over a period of time, not an isolated incident. Adèle Exarchopoulos filed her complaint in October 2024.
He was taken into custody, then summoned to court.
Doums was taken into custody on January 22 as part of this investigation. Following his detention, he was brought before a magistrate and then summoned to appear before the Paris Criminal Court for a hearing on June 29. The investigation also concerned the alleged failure to comply with a court order.
The case is not solely based on the 2024 complaint. Adèle Exarchopoulos reportedly reported an assault in a public place in 2019, two years after their separation. She subsequently claimed to have been the victim of harassment, abusive messages, and malicious phone calls. In 2024, a protection order was allegedly issued.
Another case already judged in Créteil
This Paris trial follows another conviction. In February, Doums was sentenced by the Créteil criminal court to eight months' imprisonment, suspended with probation, for domestic violence against his current partner. The court acquitted him of some of the older charges brought in that case.
Adèle Exarchopoulos does not wish to talk about it
Adèle Exarchopoulos declined to comment publicly on the matter. Neither did her lawyer. The prosecution had already reiterated that the complainant did not want the case publicized. Doums, for his part, appeared in court while free on bail, under judicial supervision, which includes a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting the alleged victim.
