The emergency department at Maillot Hospital in Val de Briey will be closed for eleven days starting Friday due to staff shortages. According to hospital management, this is the longest closure ever for this service.
During the closure, residents are advised to contact their primary care physician first. If no solution is available, they should call 15 (the French emergency medical services number) before going to an emergency room. A special arrangement has been put in place with the Grand Est Regional Health Agency and the emergency medical services (SAMU) of Meurthe-et-Moselle, Moselle, and Meuse.
A previous closure in July
The Val de Briey hospital had already had to suspend its emergency services for 24 hours in July. At the time, management cited an acute and temporary difficulty concerning medical staffing levels.
The service is scheduled to resume normal operations on Tuesday, August 25th at 9:00 AM. Other hospital services, including the maternity ward, will continue to receive patients according to their usual procedures.
