The Centre-Val de Loire Regional Health Agency has requested a "thorough review" from the Orléans University Hospital following the case of Nino-Anne Dupieux, an 85-year-old woman who spent six days and five nights on a stretcher in the emergency room. The Regional Health Agency acknowledges that this was an exceptional situation, not in line with normal patient reception procedures.
Hospitalized in July after a hemorrhage, the former deputy mayor of Orléans says she went through "hell." Unable to secure a place in a suitable ward, she ultimately signed a discharge form to leave the hospital against medical advice and return home.
Forty-two additional beds announced
The investigation requested by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) will have to determine why no hospitalization solution could be found more quickly. The agency specifically wants to examine the organization of the emergency department and the possibilities for transferring patients to other units or facilities.
The management of the University Hospital acknowledges significant strain on hospital capacity following emergency room visits. It has announced the reopening of 42 medical beds between September and November 2026, representing a 6,1% increase compared to 2025 capacity. Additional recruitment will be required to support this measure and ensure sufficient staffing levels.
