Can Jean-Luc Mélenchon avoid another elimination in 2027?

Jean-Luc Mélenchon is due to close the La France insoumise summer school in the Drôme region this Sunday with a speech largely focused on the 2027 presidential election. Leading in voting intentions on the left, the leader of La France insoumise wants to convince his potential partners not to repeat the fragmentation that cost him a qualification for the second round in 2022.

In Châteauneuf-sur-Isère, before several thousand supporters, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is expected to emphasize the need for unity. In 2022, he finished third, approximately 420,000 votes behind Marine Le Pen . But four years later, the left remains deeply divided: socialists, greens, communists, and members of La France Insoumise are each pursuing their own strategies and fielding their own candidates.

Tondelier calls on Mélenchon to show "humility"

Marine Tondelier confirmed on Saturday her intention to run as a Green candidate while remaining open to discussions with other left-wing parties. Responding to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who had stated that the Socialists and Greens had "neither a strategy nor a candidate," she called on him to "be humble," reminding him that no left-wing political force was guaranteed to reach the second round.

Meanwhile, Raphaël Glucksmann is expected to clarify his presidential ambitions, while Jérôme Guedj is advocating for a broad social-democratic primary and Fabien Roussel is preparing his own candidacy for the French Communist Party (PCF). Jean-Luc Mélenchon remains the frontrunner in the polls on the left, but his main challenge will be less about establishing himself within La France Insoumise (LFI) than about convincing a fragmented left to rally behind him.
