Édouard Philippe continues his tour of the Indian Ocean. After two days in Mayotte, the Horizons candidate for the 2027 presidential election is expected this Sunday, August 23, in Réunion, where he will stay until Tuesday.
The former Prime Minister is expected to make numerous field visits and meet with local elected officials. The agenda will include the economy, social housing, agriculture, coastal erosion, and the fight against drug trafficking. Édouard Philippe is scheduled to meet with several prominent figures from the right and center in Réunion, including the mayor of Saint-Pierre, David Lorion, and will also participate in a public discussion in Saint-Leu on Monday evening.
The goal is to unite the right and center.
This trip comes as Édouard Philippe outlined on Saturday the timeline he envisions for choosing between the numerous right-wing and centrist candidates. Speaking on BFMTV, he stated that those "who have a vocation to unite" will have to do so "sometime between November and February." "If it's later, it will be too late. February is already too late," he warned, while Gabriel Attal prefers to wait until the beginning of 2027.
In Mayotte, Édouard Philippe focused his speech on immigration, promising in particular to "close the floodgates" and increase resources allocated to reconstruction after Cyclone Chido. In Réunion, the Horizons candidate now intends to broaden his discourse to include economic and social concerns while continuing his efforts to unite the right and center.
