Cars registered in the Paris region were vandalized in southern Finistère between August 20 and 23. The vehicles were deliberately scratched, some bearing hostile graffiti. On one red car, the message "Parigot, out" was discovered. In Plobannalec-Lesconil, a town at the southern tip of the department, another vehicle displayed "No to Parisians," with several spelling mistakes.
These acts of vandalism are part of a series of anti-tourist incidents recorded this summer in the area. A sign reading "Parisians, out" was also put up on August 21. The mayors of the region have expressed their anger at this increase in incidents targeting vacationers from the Île-de-France region. The perpetrators of these acts are implicitly denouncing summer overtourism, a phenomenon that exacerbates local tensions.
A series of anti-tourist incidents
Local authorities have condemned this behavior, which damages the region's image. No arrests have been announced at this stage. Southern Finistère attracts many visitors each summer, a significant proportion of whom come from Paris and its suburbs. This open hostility towards Parisian tourists remains marginal but is frequent enough to worry local elected officials.
