Sixteen people sustained minor injuries Tuesday evening after a section of bleachers collapsed in front of Bienassis Castle in Erquy, Côtes-d'Armor. The accident occurred around 21:30 p.m., as the public was taking their seats for a sound and light show. Approximately one hundred spectators were on the structure when it gave way.
Emergency services treated sixteen victims whose injuries were considered non-life-threatening. Five of them were transported to the Saint-Brieuc hospital for further examination and treatment. No serious injuries were reported, and the other spectators were able to leave the scene without incident.
An investigation into the causes of the subsidence
The audience had gathered for the last of four performances of a show dedicated to Anne of Brittany. Projected onto the façade of Bienassis Castle, this production featured nearly 80 extras and combined music, lighting effects, historical reenactment, and a pyrotechnic finale. The show's participants were also able to evacuate the site calmly after the accident.
An investigation has been launched to determine the precise circumstances of the seating collapse. The investigation will notably seek to establish whether the accident resulted from faulty assembly, structural weakness, or another technical problem. The installation conditions and the checks carried out before the seating was opened to the public should also be examined.
