Following the violence of October 31st, Laurent Nuñez is expected at the National Assembly to defend his security policy.

Laurent Nuñez will appear before the National Assembly on Monday, November 2nd, in a particularly tense atmosphere. The Minister of the Interior is scheduled to be questioned by the Assembly's Law Committee as part of the review of his ministry's budget for 2027. While the meeting is primarily focused on the budget, it comes the day after a weekend marked by renewed clashes between violent groups and law enforcement. The official figures released by the Ministry of the Interior show a total of 779 arrests during the day of mobilization on October 31st and Halloween night.

The violence in Paris is expected to significantly influence discussions. At Porte de Charenton, police officers and gendarmes were targeted with incendiary and explosive devices, leading the Paris prosecutor's office to open an investigation for attempted homicide against law enforcement officers. Laurent Nuñez had denounced the presence of particularly violent groups of rioters, while defending the security measures deployed in major French cities.

Two hearings in two days for the Minister of the Interior

Beyond budgetary issues, members of parliament could question the minister about the resources allocated to security forces, law enforcement strategies, and measures planned to prevent further clashes. The "rioters-pay" bill, recently passed by the Senate, could also fuel the discussions. This legislation aims to strengthen the financial liability of certain individuals involved in violent groups, a policy supported by the government but contested by the left.

Laurent Nuñez is also scheduled to appear before the parliamentary inquiry committee investigating the events of October 17th on Tuesday, November 3rd. This second hearing will focus on the circumstances of the violence and the authorities' response. It promises to be a sensitive affair, given the committee's already internal tensions following Agnès Firmin Le Bodo's resignation as co-rapporteur and the National Rally 's boycott of the proceedings.
