French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot described Itamar Ben-Gvir's recent statements on the Gaza war as "unbearable and inhumane." The Israeli National Security Minister had called for dozens of assassinations to be carried out every night in the Palestinian enclave. He had asserted that the targets did not necessarily have to pose an immediate threat.
Jean-Noël Barrot also denounced the situation in the West Bank, marked by renewed violence involving Israeli settlers. France has already banned Itamar Ben Gvir from entering its territory since May 23. This measure was taken after the release of images showing activists from the Gaza flotilla kneeling with their hands bound.
Berlin also condemns the minister's statements
The German government also strongly condemned Itamar Ben-Gvir's remarks. Berlin considers them inhumane and contrary to international law. The Israeli minister had notably recommended killing dozens of people in Gaza every night, while making dehumanizing statements about them.
Paris has not ruled out further sanctions against Israeli settlers involved in violence in the West Bank. Another Israeli minister, Bezalel Smotrich, has also been banned from entering France since June 9th due to his support for the annexation of the West Bank and the re-establishment of settlements in Gaza. Jean-Noël Barrot maintains that all options remain on the table in the face of the ongoing violence.
