It's now official: Eurovision 2027 will be held in Burgas, Bulgaria. The city on the Black Sea coast has been chosen to host the 71st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, scheduled for next May. Burgas was in direct competition with Sofia during the final stage of the selection process. Four Bulgarian cities initially submitted bids: Burgas, Sofia, Plovdiv, and Varna. Plovdiv and Varna were eliminated after the first stage, leaving Burgas and the Bulgarian capital to vie for the hosting rights.
The final will take place on May 15, 2027
The three main evenings of Eurovision 2027 are already scheduled. The first semi-final will take place on Tuesday, May 11, the second on Thursday, May 13, while the grand final will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2027. All shows will be held at the Burgas Arena, a sports and events venue that opened in 2023. It will host the artists, delegations, technical teams, journalists, and the public throughout the competition. Six public rehearsals and preview shows will also be open to the public between May 10 and 15, in addition to the three live broadcasts. The exact details regarding ticket sales are yet to be announced.
A historic first for Bulgaria
The 2027 edition will mark Bulgaria's first-ever hosting of Eurovision. The country earned this right after DARA's historic victory at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna. The Bulgarian singer triumphed with her song " Bangaranga ," giving her country its first win since its debut in the competition. Thus, in just a few months, Bulgaria has gone from being a first-time winner to the host country of Europe's biggest televised music competition.
Burgas is banking on its Arena and its location on the Black Sea.
To choose between the various bids, several criteria were examined, including the technical capabilities of the venues, local infrastructure, transportation, accommodation, and the cities' capacity to host several thousand visitors over several weeks. Burgas was ultimately selected thanks to its comprehensive project, its Arena, its accommodation and transportation capacity, and its international connectivity. Bulgaria's fourth-largest city also benefits from a prime location on the Black Sea coast, with its beaches, parks, and vibrant cultural scene.
Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna will also be associated with the event
Even though Burgas will host the three main shows, Sofia, Plovdiv, and Varna will not be completely excluded from Eurovision 2027. The three cities will be involved in various events organized around the contest throughout the country. In Burgas, a full program will also accompany the competition, including the Eurovision Village, the EuroClub, and several cultural and musical events. Details will be revealed gradually over the coming months. After Vienna in 2026, Eurovision will head to the Black Sea in May 2027, with Burgas hosting the contest for the first time in Bulgaria.
