Amy Winehouse: "Back to Black" re-released with four unreleased demos

Twenty years after its release, Amy Winehouse's cult album returns in an expanded reissue. Expected on October 23, 2026, it will include four unreleased demos, rarities, and the complete concert recorded in Amsterdam.

An album that has gone down in history

Released on October 27, 2006, Back to Black propelled Amy Winehouse to global stardom. Driven by the hit singles "Rehab ," "You Know I'm No Good ," "Tears Dry on Their Own," and the title track, this second album blends soul, jazz, and rhythm and blues in an intimate narrative about heartbreak, loss, and destructive relationships.

Produced primarily by Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, the album sold over 25 million copies worldwide. It also contributed to the five Grammy Awards won by the singer in 2008 and remains, two decades later, a major reference point in 2000s popular music.

Four brand-new demos on the program

To celebrate this anniversary, Universal Music Enterprises and Island Records will release a deluxe edition in digital, triple CD, and triple vinyl formats. This edition will include the original album, four previously unreleased demos, as well as various B-sides, rough cuts, and bonus tracks from this creative period. The reissue will also include the complete concert given by Amy Winehouse at the Paradiso in Amsterdam on February 8, 2007. This recording will be presented for the first time in its entirety on CD and vinyl, allowing us to rediscover the intensity and vocal uniqueness of the artist at the time when her career was taking on an international dimension.

Personal archives revealed

The box set will also give significant space to visual archives. It will notably contain reproductions of handwritten lyrics as well as previously unseen photographs taken by Mischa Richter and Alex Lake, the photographers associated with the graphic design of the original album.

Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi have also written new texts to accompany this edition. Their accounts will offer a glimpse into the making of the album, the recording sessions, and how Amy Winehouse transformed her personal experiences into songs that were at once raw, elegant, and universal.

Several editions for collectors

Several variations will be released, including a triple transparent vinyl with an alternative cover. A blue and black marbled version, called Chalkboard Marble , will feature the album's colors, while a zoetrope vinyl will display animated color images when the record is spinning.

All these editions will be released on Friday, October 23, 2026, a few days before the album's twentieth anniversary. More than just a reissue, this project aims to document the creation of Back to Black and highlight the enduring legacy of Amy Winehouse, who passed away in 2011 at the age of 27.
